The Fanvenne is a black pendant light with a shade made from two interlocking wire cubes, one turned at an angle to the other, around an exposed bulb holder. The frame is steel in a black finish, so the shade reads as a set of fine, crisp lines against a pale ceiling or wall. It measures 24cm long and 20.5cm wide, with an overall height of 110cm, and hangs from a round black ceiling rose. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 60W, which is not included. With an IP20 rating it is made for dry rooms indoors, so it belongs in living spaces rather than a bathroom or a garden.

Because the shade is an open frame rather than a solid shell, nothing hides the bulb, and the shape looks light enough to hang in a smaller room without crowding it. We like it above a coffee table, a dining table or a kitchen island, and it suits a bedroom, a hallway or a reading corner just as well. The black steel sits comfortably in industrial and modern rooms alike, and it gives a plain ceiling a strong graphic outline. Hung in a row, several of them give a long table or island an even line of light.

There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so it works from the switch you already use for the room. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and as a wired-in mains light it is installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions come as a PDF download. The packed weight is 0.628KG. Because the bulb sits on show inside the cubes, it pays to choose a decorative one: a clear globe filament bulb with an E27 cap shows the wire frame at its best, as long as it stays within the 60W maximum.
