B22 (BC) LED Filament GLS Bulb 8W 1050lm - Warm White 2700K

This is an 8W LED filament bulb with a B22 bayonet cap and the classic GLS shape, the rounded pear profile of a standard household bulb. Four straight filament strips run up the centre of the clear glass and light along their full length, giving the warm look of an old incandescent from a lamp that draws only 8W. Light output is 1,050 lumens at 2,700K, and the retail pack rates it as a replacement for a 75W conventional bulb.

A bayonet cap is the standard UK fitting: push in, twist a quarter turn and it locks, so there is no thread to line up overhead. Check the old bulb for two small pins on the sides of the metal cap and you have a B22. Because the glass is clear and the filaments are on show, it suits fittings where the bulb is part of the look: open pendants, clear glass shades and table lamps with an open top. The beam spreads across 280 degrees, close to all round, so a single bulb in a central pendant lights a living room, bedroom or hallway evenly rather than throwing a pool straight down.

At 2,700K the light is properly warm, closer to a traditional bulb than to the whiter 4,000K lamps, which is why it suits rooms you relax in. It is not dimmable, so put it on a standard on/off switch and choose a lamp marked dimmable if you want to vary the level. How do I know if my fitting takes a B22 bulb?

Look at the metal cap on the bulb you are replacing. A B22 has a smooth cap with two small pins on opposite sides, and it pushes in and twists a quarter turn to lock. A cap with a spiral thread is a screw fitting and will not take this bulb.

How bright is 1,050 lumens in a normal room?

Brighter than the 806 lumens most people buy as a 60W replacement. The pack rates this one against a 75W conventional bulb, so it is a good choice for a single pendant lighting a whole living room, kitchen or landing.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists this bulb as non dimmable, so it belongs on a plain on/off switch. If you need to vary the light level, choose a lamp that is marked dimmable on its own packaging.

What does warm white 2,700K actually look like?

It is a soft, yellow toned white, the colour people associate with old incandescent bulbs. It flatters warm paint colours, wood and brass, and reads as much cosier than a 4,000K or 6,500K lamp.

How long should it last?

The pack prints a 10 year lamp life of 10,000 hours, along with more than 8,000 on and off switching cycles, so it copes with rooms where the light gets flicked on and off often.

Will it run on UK mains voltage?

Yes. The pack states a supply of 220 to 240V at 50 or 60Hz, which covers standard UK household mains with no driver or transformer needed.
