Description

This is a GLS bulb in the familiar household pear shape, built with LED filaments rather than a coiled tungsten wire. Four straight filament strips run the length of the clear glass, so lit or unlit it looks like a traditional bulb, and the glass is left clear rather than pearled. It draws 8W and gives 1050 lumens, which the pack rates as the equal of a 75W conventional bulb. The cap is E27, the large screw fitting known in the trade as ES, and the light is warm white at 2700 Kelvin.

A clear filament bulb is worth choosing where the bulb itself is on show: open pendants, a glass shade, a wall bracket with the lamp exposed, or a table lamp under a fabric drum. The 280 degree beam spreads light almost all the way round, so a pendant lit with one of these will fill a room rather than throw a pool straight down. At 1050 lumens it is bright enough to be the main light in a bedroom, hallway or dining room, and the 2700K tone keeps the light soft and yellow rather than clinical.

How do I know my light fitting takes an E27 cap?

E27 is the larger of the two screw caps used in the UK, also written ES. Take the old bulb out and measure the screw thread: 27mm across means E27, while 14mm is the smaller E14 or SES.

Can I use this on a dimmer switch?
