E27 (ES) LED GLS Bulb 8.8W 806lm Non-Dimmable - Warm White 3000K

This is a standard GLS bulb, the classic pear shaped household form, with an E27 screw cap and an LED module inside. It draws 8.8W and gives 806 lumens, which the pack rates as the same light as an old 60W filament bulb. The glass is opal white rather than clear, so the diodes are hidden behind a soft even surface and the light leaves without hot spots. Colour temperature is 3000K, given on the pack as warm white: a soft light between the yellow of old tungsten and the crisper white of a 4000K lamp.

E27 is the larger of the two screw caps in common UK use, often written as ES. If you are swapping an old bulb, look at the thread: E27 measures about 27mm across, while the smaller E14 is noticeably narrower. It suits table lamps, floor lamps, pendants over a dining table and shades on a hall or landing fitting. The 220 degree beam is wide for a lamp of this kind, so light spreads sideways as well as down, which matters in a fabric or paper shade where you want the shade to glow rather than a bright pool on the floor.

This bulb is not dimmable. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or fail early, so keep it on an ordinary switch and choose a dimmable lamp where you want control. Will this fit my lamp?

It fits any fitting that takes an E27 screw cap, also written as ES or Edison screw. Take out the old bulb and check the thread is the wider of the two screw sizes rather than the smaller E14.

How bright is 8.8W against an old filament bulb?

It puts out 806 lumens, and the pack rates that as the equal of a 60W conventional bulb. Lumens measure light rather than power, so compare that figure, not the wattage, when you replace an older lamp.

Can I use it with a dimmer switch?

No. The specification states it is not dimmable, so on a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or fail well before its rated life. Keep it on a normal on and off switch.

What does 3000K warm white actually look like?

It is a soft, gently warm light, easier on the eye in a sitting room or bedroom than 4000K or 6500K, and a little cleaner and brighter looking than a 2700K lamp.

Can I fit it in an outdoor light?

It is rated IP20, which means no protection against water at all, so it is for dry indoor locations only. Choose a lamp and fitting rated for outdoor use instead.
