E27 (ES) LED GLS Bulb 8.8W 806lm Non-Dimmable - Cool White 4000K

This is the everyday pear-shaped bulb, the GLS, in LED form with an E27 screw cap. It draws 8.8W and gives 806 lumens, which the pack puts at the equal of a 60W conventional bulb, so it is a straight one-for-one swap for an old 60W pendant or table lamp. The light is cool white at 4,000K, a clean white rather than the yellow glow of a filament lamp. The milky white body spreads it over a 220 degree beam, so you get an even wash through a plain shade rather than a hot spot.

Cool white suits rooms where you want to see clearly rather than settle in for the evening: kitchens, utility rooms, garages, home offices, stairwells and hallways. At 806 lumens, one is usually enough for a small ceiling fitting, and two or three will cover a kitchen comfortably. E27 is the larger of the two screw caps in common UK use, so check the old bulb first: the E27 thread measures 27mm across, while the slimmer E14 is what most small lamps and chandeliers take. The wide beam works as well pointing up into a shade as down.

This one does not dim: the specification gives it as non-dimmable, so put it on a plain on-off switch and choose a dimmable bulb for any circuit with a dimmer. How do I know if my lamp takes an E27 cap?

E27 is the larger screw cap, with a thread 27mm across. Unscrew the old bulb and measure it: the slimmer 14mm thread is E14, which will not fit here.

Is 806 lumens really the same as my old 60W bulb?

The pack rates it as the equal of a 60W conventional bulb, and 806 lumens is the figure the industry settled on for that replacement, so brightness should feel the same.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification gives this bulb as non-dimmable, so it belongs on a standard on-off switch. On a dimmer it may flicker, buzz or fail early.

What does cool white at 4,000K actually look like?

It is a crisp neutral white, brighter and less yellow than a 2,700K warm white, without going as blue as a 6,500K daylight lamp. Good for work surfaces.

Will it cope with being switched on and off constantly?

The pack prints more than 10,000 switching cycles alongside the 10 year lamp life, which is why it suits hallway, landing and utility room fittings.
