B22 (BC) LED GLS Bulb 8.8W 806lm - Daylight 6500K, 2 Pack

An LED GLS bulb with a B22 bayonet cap, the push-and-twist fitting used in most UK ceiling roses, pendants and table lamps. It draws 8.8W and puts out 806 lumens, which the retail pack rates as the equal of a 60W conventional bulb, so it is a direct swap for the 60W pearl bulbs still in a lot of fittings. The colour temperature is 6,500K, a daylight white with none of the yellow cast of a filament lamp. The envelope is the familiar pear shape in a white diffusing finish, and the beam angle is a wide 220 degrees, so light carries out to the sides and upwards rather than forward in a spot.

Daylight output of this kind is easiest to live with where you are doing something rather than relaxing: kitchens and utility rooms, garages and workshops, home offices, garden rooms and stairwells. How do I know if my fitting takes a B22 bulb?

Look at the base of the old bulb. A B22 bayonet cap has two small pins on a smooth metal collar and pushes in with a quarter turn, rather than screwing in on a thread.

What does 6,500K daylight actually look like?

It is a crisp blue-white light with no yellow in it, close to overcast daylight. Good for working areas and colour matching, cooler than the 2700K or 3000K most people choose for lounges.

Can I use this bulb on a dimmer switch?

No. It is non-dimmable, so fit it to a standard on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, hum or fail to light properly.

Does the 220 degree beam angle matter for a pendant shade?

Yes. A 220 degree spread pushes light sideways and upwards as well as down, so open shades and upturned fittings fill with light rather than showing one bright pool below.
