B22 (BC) LED Filament Bulb 4W 470lm - Warm White 2700K, 2 Pack

This is a 4W LED golf ball bulb on a B22 bayonet cap, the push and twist fitting that most British lamps and ceiling pendants use. The glass is clear and the light comes from four straight filament strips set around a central stem, so it looks like a traditional bulb rather than a frosted LED. It gives 470 lumens at 2,700K, a warm white close in colour to old incandescent lighting, and the retail pack rates it as the equivalent of a 40W conventional bulb. Each box holds two bulbs.

Golf ball bulbs are the small round ones used where a standard GLS bulb would be too big or too obvious: multi arm pendants, small chandeliers, wall lights, bedside and table lamps, and fittings with a narrow clip on shade. Because the glass is clear, the filaments are part of the look, so this suits open shades, glass shades and any fitting where the bulb sits in plain view. The 280 degree beam spreads light almost all the way around the bulb rather than forwards, which makes it a good general room light rather than a spot. IP20 means dry indoor fittings only.

There is no dimming here: the specification lists the bulb as non dimmable, so wire it to an ordinary switch and keep it off dimmer circuits, where a non dimmable LED can buzz, flicker or fail early. It runs on standard 220 to 240V mains. The energy label rates it E, with consumption of 4kWh per 1,000 hours, and the pack prints a lamp life of 10 years. Will this fit my existing bayonet lamp holder?

It fits any standard B22 bayonet holder, the type where the cap has two side pins and locks with a push and a quarter turn. Check the old bulb has pins rather than a screw thread before ordering.

Is 470 lumens bright enough to replace an old 40W bulb?

The pack rates this 4W bulb as the equivalent of a 40W conventional lamp, so in a bedside light, a wall light or a multi arm pendant it should give you the same useful level of light for a fraction of the power.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists it as non dimmable, so it needs an ordinary on and off switch. Fitting a non dimmable LED to a dimmer circuit can cause buzzing, flicker at low settings and early failure.

What does 2,700K warm white look like in a room?

It is the soft yellow white of traditional filament lighting, warmer than the crisper 4000K cool white and much warmer than 6500K daylight. It flatters wood, brick and warm paint colours in living rooms and bedrooms.

Is it suitable for a shade that leaves the bulb on show?

Yes. The glass is clear and the four filament strips are meant to be seen, which makes it a good match for open shades, glass shades and fittings where the bulb is part of the look.
