E27 (ES) LED Filament GLS Bulb 4W 470lm - Warm White 2700K - Eveready

This is a 4W LED filament bulb with an E27 screw cap and the classic GLS shape, the rounded pear outline household bulbs have carried for decades. It gives 470 lumens at 2,700K, a soft yellow warm white, and the pack rates it as the equal of a conventional 40W bulb. The glass is clear rather than pearl, so the four amber filament strands stay on show while it burns. Light leaves across a 280 degree beam, spreading in nearly every direction rather than forward only.

Clear filament bulbs earn their place wherever the bulb is part of what you see: open pendants, cage fittings, glass shades and table lamps with a shallow shade. The wide spread also fills a fabric drum evenly instead of pooling light downward, so it works just as well in a plain ceiling rose. In a dining room, hallway or snug the 2,700K tone reads warm against wood, brass and darker paint. Before ordering, check the cap on the bulb you are taking out: E27 is the larger of the two common screw caps, about 27mm across the thread, and the smaller E14 will not fit.

This bulb does not dim, so give it a plain on/off switch rather than a dimmer or a smart dimming module. It runs on ordinary 220-240V mains. The pack prints a lamp life of 10 years, or 10,000 hours, and more than 8,000 switching cycles, which is the figure that matters on a landing or hallway light flicked on and off all day. The energy label puts it in class E at 4kWh per 1,000 hours. Each unit is a single bulb, with a minimum order of 5 in multiples of 5. Will this fit my lamp or pendant?

It fits any E27 screw socket, also called ES. Twist the old bulb out and look at the cap: E27 threads measure about 27mm across, while the narrower E14 or a push and twist bayonet cap will not take this bulb.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. Both the specification and the small print on the box say it is not dimmable, so wire it to a plain on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit a non-dimmable lamp can flicker, buzz or fail well before its rated life.

How bright is 470 lumens in real terms?

It matches the output of an old 40W incandescent bulb, which the pack states as the equivalent. That suits a bedside lamp, a hallway or one of several bulbs in a multi-arm fitting, rather than lighting a whole living room alone.

What does warm white 2,700K actually look like?

It is the yellow-leaning tone people associate with traditional filament lighting, easy in the evening and flattering on wood, brass and warm paint colours. Anything from 4000K upward looks noticeably whiter and cooler beside it.

Can I use it in an open fitting where the bulb is on show?

Yes, that is what the clear glass is for. The four straight filament strands sit upright in the centre of the envelope and stay visible when lit, so the bulb reads as part of the fitting.
