Description

This is a golf ball LED bulb with an E27 screw cap, the larger of the two common screw sizes and the one usually called ES. It draws 4.9W and gives 470 lumens, which the retail pack rates as the equal of a 40W conventional bulb. The light is warm white at 3,000K, a soft yellow-toned white rather than a crisp one, and the opal envelope keeps the LED chips behind a smooth diffuser so you see an even glow rather than bright points.

It suits small pendants, bedside and table lamps, wall lights and multi-arm fittings where several bulbs sit close together, and it works well in open shades where the bulb is on show. Warm white at 3,000K sits between the yellow 2,700K of an old filament lamp and the neutral 4,000K of a kitchen downlight, so it stays cosy in a living room or bedroom without turning amber.
