This is a golf ball bulb on an E14 small screw cap, the narrow threaded fitting often called SES. It draws 4.9W and gives 470 lumens of warm white light at 3000K, which the pack rates as the equal of a conventional 40W bulb. The golf shape keeps the glass close to the cap, so the whole lamp is short enough to sit inside a small shade without the tip showing. The body is opal white rather than clear, so the light leaves the bulb evenly instead of throwing a bright point.

E14 is the cap on most chandeliers, wall brackets, bedside lamps and small pendants, so this is the bulb to reach for when a fitting takes something smaller than a standard screw lamp. Before ordering, check the old bulb: an SES thread measures about 14mm across, against 27mm for the larger ES size, and the two do not swap. How do I know my light fitting takes an E14 cap?

Take the old bulb out and measure the screw thread. E14 measures roughly 14mm across, while the larger ES cap measures 27mm, and SES is simply another name for E14.

Is 470 lumens bright enough to replace my old 40W bulb?

Yes. The pack rates this 4.9W lamp as the equal of a conventional 40W bulb, so a five arm chandelier fitted with these gives roughly the light of five old 40W lamps.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification states it is not dimmable, so wire it to a plain on/off switch. On a dimmer it may flicker, buzz or fail early, whatever the dimmer is set to.

What does warm white 3000K actually look like?
