E27 LED GLS Bulb 4.9W 470lm Non-Dimmable - Warm White 3000K - Eveready

A 4.9W LED bulb with an E27 screw cap and the familiar GLS shape, the rounded pear outline that has been the standard household bulb for a century. The glass is opal white rather than clear, so light leaves it diffused and there is no bright filament to catch the eye through a thin shade. It draws 4.9W and puts out 470 lumens, which the pack rates as the equal of a 40W conventional bulb. Colour temperature is 3000K warm white, and the energy rating on the current scale is F.

E27 is the larger of the two screw caps in common UK use, and it is what most table lamps, floor lamps, pendant sets and hall fittings take. If you are swapping an old bulb, take it out and look at the cap: a narrower screw thread is E14 and will not accept this one. The beam angle is 220 degrees, so light travels sideways and backwards as well as down, which is what an open shade, a pendant over a dining table or an upward facing wall fitting wants. Warm white at 3000K is a shade cleaner than old filament light without turning cold, and it suits living rooms, bedrooms and landings.

This bulb is not dimmable. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or refuse to run below full output, so keep it on a plain on and off switch. It runs on 220 to 240V mains and is rated IP20, meaning ordinary dry indoor rooms. The pack states a lamp life of 10 years or 10,000 hours and more than 10,000 switching cycles, which matters on a landing or cupboard light that gets flicked constantly. Will this fit my lamp or ceiling fitting?

Check the cap on the bulb you are taking out. This one is E27, the larger screw thread, often marked ES on packaging. A narrower screw cap is E14 and will not take it.

How bright is 470 lumens in practice?

The pack rates it as the equal of a 40W conventional bulb, so expect comfortable general light rather than strong task light. In a larger room, two or three fittings work better than one.

Can I use it with a dimmer switch?

No. It is non-dimmable, and on a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or hold at full output. Use a plain switch, or pick a dimmable lamp where you want adjustable light.

What does 3000K warm white actually look like?

Warm, but a shade cleaner than old filament light, without the deep yellow of 2700K or the blue edge of daylight. It flatters wood, paint and soft furnishings in living spaces.

How long should it last?

The pack prints a lamp life of 10 years or 10,000 hours, plus more than 10,000 switching cycles, so a light that gets flicked on and off constantly is well within its design.

Why is an LED bulb rated F for energy?

The 2021 scale reset the bands, so most LED bulbs now land between E and G. An F rated LED still draws a small fraction of the power a 40W conventional bulb would.
