B22 LED GLS Bulb 4.9W 470lm Non-Dimmable - Warm White 3000K - Eveready

A GLS bulb is the familiar pear-shaped household bulb, and this one carries a B22 bayonet cap: the two-pin push-and-twist fitting found on most British ceiling roses, pendants and table lamps. It draws 4.9W and puts out 470 lumens, which the retail pack rates as the equal of a 40W conventional bulb. The colour temperature is 3,000K warm white, a soft yellow-leaning light close to the old incandescent bulbs rather than the blue-white of a daylight lamp. The frosted white casing diffuses the LED behind it, so the bulb reads as one even glow rather than a cluster of bright points.

The 220 degree beam angle spreads light almost all the way round the bulb rather than pushing it forward in a cone, which suits shades open at the top and bottom, a rise-and-fall pendant over a dining table, or an upright table lamp inside a drum shade. It is a fair choice for a landing or hallway fitting where you want the whole space lit rather than one pool of light. Look at the base of the old bulb. A B22 cap is smooth metal with two small side pins and pushes in then twists a quarter turn, rather than screwing in like an E27.

How bright is 470 lumens next to the bulb I am replacing?

The pack rates it as the equal of a 40W conventional bulb. If your old bulb was 60W or 100W you will find this one noticeably gentler.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists it as non-dimmable, so it wants a plain on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, hum or shorten its life considerably.

What does 3,000K warm white look like in the room?

A soft, slightly yellow light in the register of an old incandescent bulb. It flatters warm paint colours, wood and brass, and reads far less clinical than a 6,500K daylight lamp.
