B22 LED GLS Bulb 4.9W 470lm Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K - Eveready

This is a GLS bulb, the familiar pear shaped household lamp, built with LED inside and finished with a B22 bayonet cap. It draws 4.9W and gives 470 lumens at 6,500K, the coolest white on the domestic scale and the one Eveready sells as daylight. The retail pack rates it as a replacement for a 40W conventional bulb, so brightness stays where it was while the power drawn drops to well under a fifth. The envelope is a plain white diffusing one rather than clear glass, so the light spreads evenly and the diodes inside do not read as hot spots.

A 6,500K white is a working light rather than a relaxing one. It suits a garage, a utility room, a home office or a hobby bench, anywhere you want colours to read true and small detail to stay sharp. How do I know if my fitting takes a B22 bulb?

Look at the metal cap on the old bulb. A B22 cap is smooth sided with two small pins sticking out, and it pushes in and twists a quarter turn to lock. If the old cap has a spiral thread, it is a screw fitting and this bulb will not go in.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists this lamp as non dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. Fitted to a dimmer circuit it will not respond properly to the dial, so choose a dimmable lamp if that is what the room is wired for.

What does 6,500K daylight actually look like?

It is a crisp blue leaning white, much cooler than the yellow of an old filament bulb or a 2700K warm white. The pack quotes a colour rendering index above 80, so colours stay honest under it, which is why this temperature suits work and detail tasks.
