E27 (ES) LED Candle Bulb 4.9W 470lm - Cool White 4000K

A candle bulb with an E27 screw cap, drawing 4.9W and giving 470 lumens of cool white light at 4000K. Candle is the slim, tapered shape made for chandeliers, wall brackets and small clip-on shades, and E27 is the larger of the two common screw caps, with a thread about 27mm across, where the smaller SES thread measures 14mm. If the bulb you are replacing screws in rather than pushing and twisting, and the thread is roughly the width of a ten pence piece, E27 is what you want. The body is white and opal rather than clear, so it gives an even glow instead of a cluster of bright points.

Cool white at 4000K sits between the warm yellow of a traditional filament lamp and the blue-white of a daylight lamp. It is a clean, neutral light that keeps whites looking white, which suits kitchens, hallways, landings, utility rooms and home offices better than it suits a bedside lamp. How do I know my fitting takes an E27 cap?

An E27 bulb screws in on a thread roughly 27mm across. If your old bulb pushes and twists it is a bayonet cap, and if the thread is much narrower it is likely E14.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. This lamp is non-dimmable, so it needs a plain on/off switch. Running a non-dimmable LED on a dimmer circuit can cause flicker, buzzing or early failure.

What does cool white 4000K look like in a room?

It is a neutral, clean light with none of the yellow of a 2700K lamp and none of the blue edge of a 6500K daylight lamp, so colours and whites read accurately.

Will 470 lumens replace my old 40W candle bulb?

The pack states a 40W conventional equivalent, so it is the sensible swap for an old 40W candle lamp while drawing only 4.9W from the socket.

How long should it last?

The pack prints a 10 year lamp life at 10,000 hours, along with more than 10,000 switching cycles, so frequent switching should not shorten it the way it did with older lamps.

Does it spread light all round or only forwards?

The specification gives a 280 degree beam angle, so light spreads widely around the lamp rather than throwing in one direction, which suits open shades and multi-arm fittings.
