B22 (BC) LED Candle Bulb 4.9W 470lm - Cool White 4000K

This is a candle-shaped LED bulb with a B22 bayonet cap, the standard large bayonet fitting found on most British light fittings. It draws 4.9W and gives 470 lumens, which the pack rates as the equal of a 40W conventional candle bulb. The light is cool white at 4,000K: a crisp, slightly blue-leaning white rather than the yellow of an old filament lamp. The opal outer shell diffuses the light from the LEDs behind it, so the bulb glows evenly along its length, and the beam spreads across 280 degrees.

Candle bulbs earn their keep where the bulb itself is on show: chandeliers, multi-arm pendants, wall lights and lantern-style fittings with narrow glass sleeves. Will this fit my existing bayonet light fitting?

It fits B22 large bayonet holders, the type where the cap has two side pins and you push in and twist a quarter turn. If the old cap is noticeably narrower it is B15 small bayonet and will not fit.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. This bulb is non-dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. Run on a dimmer circuit it may flicker, hum or fail to light at lower settings, and its working life can be shortened.

How bright is 4.9W against the bulb I am replacing?

It produces 470 lumens, and the pack rates that as the equivalent of a 40W conventional candle bulb. Lumens are the figure to compare when swapping from old filament lamps, not watts.

What does cool white at 4,000K actually look like?

It is a neutral, crisp white with none of the amber cast of a filament lamp. It reads brighter and more businesslike than warm white 3000K, and softer than daylight 6500K.

Does the bulb light evenly, or only from the tip?

The opal shell spreads the output over a 280 degree beam, so light leaves almost all of the bulb rather than firing forward. That suits open fittings where the lamp is on view.
