B15 (SBC) LED Candle Bulb 4.9W 470lm - Warm White 3000K

A candle bulb does one job well: it fills the small tapered shade or open candelabra arm that a round bulb looks wrong in. This one runs on 4.9W of LED and gives 470 lumens, which the pack rates as the equal of a 40W conventional candle. The cap is B15, the small bayonet, so it pushes in and twists a quarter turn rather than screwing. The body is opal white rather than clear, so the light leaves it as a soft even glow instead of a bright point.

B15 is the smaller of the two bayonet caps, and that matters more than it sounds. If the old bulb had two pins on a cap about the width of a pencil, it is B15; if the pins sat on a wider cap nearer 22mm across, you need B22 instead. Small bayonet turns up most often on chandeliers, candelabra wall lights, pendant clusters and bedside lamps with clip-on shades. At 280 degrees the beam is close to all round, so light spreads well in an open shade or a closed one.

There is no dimming here: the specification lists it as non-dimmable, so keep it on a plain on/off switch. Fitted to a dimmer it may flicker, buzz or refuse to light at the low end, and that is the single most common reason a candle bulb gets returned. Colour temperature is 3000K warm white, a touch crisper than the 2700K of an old incandescent but still on the warm side of neutral. The pack prints a 10 year lamp life, 10,000 hours, and more than 10,000 on/off cycles, and the energy label rates it F. It runs on 220 to 240V and is sold as a single bulb, in multiples of five. How do I tell whether my light takes B15 or B22?

Pull the old bulb and look at the metal cap. B15 has two small pins on a cap roughly 15mm across; B22 pins sit on a noticeably wider cap of about 22mm. They do not interchange.

Can I use this on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists it as non-dimmable, so it belongs on a standard on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, hum or fail to strike at low settings.

Is 470 lumens bright enough to replace a 40W candle bulb?

Yes. The pack states 470 lumens as the equal of a 40W conventional candle, so a chandelier fitted with several of these gives much the same light for far less power.

What will 3000K warm white look like beside my older bulbs?

It reads as a warm, comfortable white, slightly cleaner than the yellow of a traditional filament bulb at 2700K but nothing like the blue cast of daylight lamps.

Will the light spread through a shade that is closed at the top?

The 280 degree beam throws light almost all the way around the bulb rather than forwards only, so it suits open candelabra arms and enclosed candle shades alike.
