Description

A 15W fridge lamp with a small screw E14 (SES) cap, built for the job most bulbs do badly: sitting inside a cold cabinet that is switched on and off dozens of times a day. The glass is clear and short, a stubby pygmy envelope that clears the shallow lamp housings built into refrigerator interiors, and the coiled filament sits in plain view behind it. Output is 100 lumens at 2,800 Kelvin, a warm white that reads yellow rather than blue against white plastic shelving.

Before you order, take the old bulb out and look at the cap. E14 is the smaller of the two common screw fittings, 14mm across the thread, so it will not go into a larger E27 holder, and it screws rather than pushing and twisting like a B15 bayonet. Fridges and freezers are the usual home for a lamp this size, and the same cap and short envelope turn up in small enclosed fittings where a full size bulb has no room to sit. The 180 degree beam printed on the pack means the light spreads sideways as well as forwards, which is what you want from a lamp mounted flat against the back or roof of a cabinet rather than pointing down a shelf.

It is not dimmable, so run it from a plain switch or the appliance's own door switch. The pack states a lamp life of 1 year or 1,000 hours and more than 8,000 switching cycles, and the cycle figure is the one that matters here, because a fridge lamp is switched every time the door opens.
