Description

This is a 13.8W LED GLS bulb with a B22 bayonet cap, the push and twist fitting found on most British pendants, table lamps and ceiling roses. It gives 1521 lumens, which the retail pack rates as the equal of a 100W conventional bulb, making it one of the brighter general purpose LED bulbs in this shape. The light is warm white at 3000K, a soft yellow white rather than a clinical one, and the opal outer shell spreads it across a 200 degree beam instead of throwing it in a single direction.

The GLS is the classic household bulb shape, so this one goes wherever a bayonet holder already sits: a living room pendant, a hallway fitting switched on and off many times a day, a reading lamp, or an open shade where part of the bulb is on show. At 1521 lumens it is a sensible choice for a room lit by one central fitting, a kitchen, a home office or a big landing, where a 470lm candle bulb would leave the corners dim. Under a fabric or paper shade, the opal shell keeps the source soft rather than glary.

It is not dimmable, so pair it with a plain on and off switch; on a dimmer circuit a non-dimmable LED can buzz, flicker or fail early. It runs on 220 to 240V mains, and the pack prints a life of 10 years or 10,000 hours together with more than 10,000 on and off cycles, which is why it suits a frequently switched hall or stair light. Will this fit my existing bayonet lamp holder?

Yes, if the old bulb pushed in and twisted a quarter turn with two pins on the metal cap, that is B22 and this bulb fits it. Screw caps such as E27 will not.

How bright is 1521 lumens in a real room?

Brighter than most LED bulbs sold for household use. The pack puts it level with a 100W conventional bulb, so it will light a main living room, kitchen or landing from one central fitting.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. It is non-dimmable, so it needs a standard on and off switch. On a dimmer it may hum, flicker at low settings or shorten its own life considerably.

What does warm white 3000K actually look like?

A soft, slightly yellow white. It is a little crisper than the 2700K of an old filament bulb but well short of the blue white you get from 4000K or 6500K lamps.

How long should it last, and does frequent switching hurt it?

The pack prints 10 years or 10,000 hours, along with more than 10,000 switching cycles, so it copes with a light that is flicked on and off all day.
