Description

This is a bayonet cap LED bulb in the traditional GLS shape, the rounded household bulb profile that most UK table lamps, pendants and ceiling fittings were built around. It draws 14W and gives 1,521 lumens, and the pack rates that as a replacement for a 100W conventional bulb. The light is 6,500K daylight: a crisp, blue-white light rather than the yellow of an old filament lamp. The bulb has a frosted white envelope rather than a clear one, which diffuses the light source into an even glow instead of bright points. It arrives as a box of two.

Daylight at 6,500K is the coolest of the common colour temperatures, and it suits places where you want to see clearly rather than settle in: kitchens, utility rooms, garages, workshops, home offices, garden sheds and stairwells. It reads sharp against warm white bulbs, so if the rest of a room runs at 2,700K or 3,000K, either change the lot or keep the daylight bulb to one working area. The 200 degree beam spreads light around the lamp rather than forward, which is what makes a GLS bulb suit a shade, a pendant or an upward-facing fitting.

There is no dimming: the specification lists this bulb as non-dimmable, so pair it with an ordinary on/off switch; a dimmer circuit can cause flicker or buzz and shorten the life of a lamp not built for it. It takes a B22 bayonet cap, the fitting with two small pins on the metal base that pushes in and twists a quarter turn. Check the old bulb for those pins rather than a screw thread.

Can I use it with a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists this bulb as non-dimmable, so it needs an ordinary on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit you are likely to get flicker, buzzing or a shortened life.
