Description

This engraved baby mug is a small keepsake to welcome a new arrival, with a stork for its handle and the word BABY engraved across the front. Around the lettering run little nursery motifs: a teddy bear, a giraffe, a pram, a rattle, a rabbit, a feeding bottle, a safety pin, a bow, stars and hearts. It is made of iron and steel with a polished pewter finish, and it stands 9cm tall and measures 7.5cm across and 7.5cm deep. It holds 142ml, a modest, baby-sized measure that keeps the whole piece compact.

We see it as a thoughtful christening gift, or a present to mark a birth, for a little one from newborn up to three years old. The motifs are cheerful without being tied to a boy or a girl, so it suits any baby, and the BABY lettering makes its purpose clear at a glance. Once unwrapped, it earns a place on a nursery shelf, a bedroom windowsill or inside a glass display cabinet, where the polished surface catches the light. Later on it becomes one of those pieces a family keeps, brought out to remember the day it was given.

The tapered body rises from a stepped, footed base that keeps the mug steady on a shelf, and a rounded lip finishes the top neatly. The stork is shaped in detail, its beak meeting the rim and its legs reaching down to the lower body, so the handle reads as part of the design. To keep the polish bright, dust it with a soft dry cloth; if it needs more, wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it thoroughly straight away, as iron and steel are best kept dry. For a gift, tuck in a card with the baby's name and the date, and the mug carries its own story from the first day.
