English Bridle 3 Light Outdoor Pendant Lantern - British Bronze

The English Bridle is a 470mm outdoor pendant lantern built around a British bronze cast-aluminium frame with three E14 candle-style bulb holders inside a clear seeded-glass enclosure. The decorative pierced metalwork band beneath the roof echoes Victorian estate lanterns, while the seeded glass scatters light into soft, textured patterns across porches and covered entryways.

Designed for porches, covered patios, verandas and courtyard walkways, the lantern hangs from a 1524mm adjustable chain with a minimum total drop of 580mm and maximum of 2105mm when fully extended. The IP44 rating protects the internal components from rain splash and dust ingress, making the fitting suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, pergolas or porch ceilings. The three E14 bulbs (sold separately) provide up to 180W combined output when using traditional incandescent candles, or equivalent LED alternatives at lower wattage.

The British bronze finish combines warm copper undertones with a dark patina that suits both traditional stone or brick facades and contemporary render. The 216mm diameter keeps the lantern proportionate to standard front doors and narrower porch widths without overwhelming the space. Seeded glass adds visual texture when unlit and diffuses direct glare when the bulbs are on, creating ambient rather than harsh task lighting. The cast-aluminium construction resists corrosion better than mild steel alternatives in coastal or high-humidity environments.

Can this be used in exposed outdoor locations?

The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and dust but is not fully weatherproof for completely exposed positions. The lantern is designed for sheltered outdoor areas such as covered porches, under eaves, pergolas or veranda ceilings where it is protected from direct heavy rain and wind-driven water.

What bulbs does it take?

The lantern takes three E14 candle bulbs up to 60W each (bulbs sold separately). Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K to replicate traditional filament appearance at lower running costs.

How is the chain length adjusted?

The 1524mm chain is shortened during installation by removing links and securing the canopy at the desired height. The minimum drop of 580mm includes the lantern body and canopy; the maximum drop of 2105mm uses the full chain length. Adjustment is done once during fitting and is not adjustable afterwards without re-wiring.

Is the bronze finish durable in coastal areas?

The cast-aluminium construction with powder-coated bronze finish resists corrosion better than mild steel in coastal and high-humidity environments. However, regular cleaning to remove salt deposits will extend the finish life in exposed coastal locations.
