Description
The English Bridle is a 2.4m outdoor lamp post with three E14 bulb fittings housed behind clear seeded glass panels, finished in British bronze and rated IP44 for external use. The lantern head sits on a fluted post with cast detailing around the neck and base, and the seeded glass texture diffuses light from the three 60W-max candle bulbs without obscuring the view of the filaments.
Designed for driveways, front paths and garden entrances where both illumination and visual presence are needed, the lamp post provides approximately 180W of combined light output when fitted with three 60W bulbs. The 267mm-square lantern head projects light outward in four directions, giving good ground coverage within a 4-5m radius. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing water but does not qualify the fitting for direct spray or submersion.
The British bronze finish is a darker, cooler-toned bronze than antique brass, with a matte surface that resists showing water marks and fingerprints after outdoor exposure. The seeded glass has a lightly pebbled texture that was historically used on coach lamps and Victorian street lights, and it creates a subtle sparkle under evening light. The cast aluminium construction gives the post structural strength without the weight penalty of solid brass or iron.
The English Bridle collection includes matching wall lanterns, hanging lanterns and smaller post lights in the same British bronze finish and seeded glass style, allowing a coordinated exterior lighting scheme across multiple entry points and pathways.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take?
The lamp post takes three E14 candle bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for warm-white light that mimics traditional filament bulbs.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing, and the cast aluminium construction resists corrosion better than mild steel. However, in high-salt coastal environments the bronze finish may develop a patina over several years. Regular rinsing with fresh water helps slow this process.
How is the post installed?
The post requires a buried foundation or concrete base with an electrical conduit running underground to bring mains cable to the base of the fitting. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician familiar with Part P building regulations for outdoor electrical work.
What other sizes are available in this range?
The English Bridle collection includes a smaller 1-light post light, wall-mounted lanterns in two sizes, and a hanging porch lantern. All share the same British bronze finish and seeded glass aesthetic.
