Description

This is Energizer's Hard Case Pivot Plus, a handheld LED torch that puts out 300 lumens and does two things most torches this size cannot. The head pivots through 175 degrees, so you can aim the beam down into a footwell or up into a ceiling void while the handle stays in a comfortable grip. The base is magnetic, so the torch holds itself onto a bonnet, a boiler casing or a steel cabinet and leaves both hands free. Two AA alkaline batteries are in the pack, so it works the moment you open it.

It suits the jobs where a phone light gives up: under a sink, behind a washing machine, in the loft, or in the boot of a car on a dark verge. The retail pack prints an IPX4 marking and a 7m drop figure, which tells you it is meant for a van or a toolbox rather than a bedside drawer. At 300 lumens it throws a working beam across a garage or a garden without being so harsh that it dazzles you off a pale wall at close range.

The body is black and grey with orange controls, a moulded grip panel down the handle and a switch large enough to find with a gloved thumb. The pack describes one light, so there is a single LED, and it prints nothing about dimming or multiple modes; neither the pack nor the supplier specification gives a runtime or a colour temperature, and we would rather say so than put a number on the page. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth, take the batteries out if it will sit unused for months, and keep it out of standing water, because a splash marking is not the same as a waterproof one.
