Description
The Energizer 9W 2ft T8 LED tube is a direct-replacement LED retrofit for traditional fluorescent T8 tubes, offering 1080lm output with a selectable colour temperature switch built into the end cap. A sliding switch on the base allows selection between 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, or 6500K cool daylight before installation, letting you set the colour temperature to match the room's use without needing to stock three separate bulb types.
Designed for commercial, office and residential spaces where traditional T8 fluorescent tubes are being replaced, the tube fits standard T8 twin-tube batten fittings. Installation requires bypassing the existing ballast — the tube runs on direct 230V mains rather than through a fluorescent starter. Once the ballast is bypassed, the tube clips into the existing lampholder sockets and the CCT switch is set before the fitting is re-energised. The 9W draw replaces a typical 18W fluorescent, halving the running cost.
The frosted polycarbonate tube diffuses the LED strip evenly along the 600mm length, avoiding visible hotspots or banding that can occur with lower-quality retrofit LEDs. The tube delivers 120lm per watt, which is standard for current-generation T8 LED replacements and significantly better than the 60-70lm/W typical of older fluorescent tubes. The non-dimmable driver inside the tube provides stable output on standard UK mains without flicker.
Colour temperature choice allows the same tube type to serve different applications: 3000K for hospitality, retail display and residential spaces where warmer tones reduce harshness; 4000K for general office, workshop and corridor lighting where neutral white balances clarity with comfort; 6500K for technical work, inspection tasks and environments requiring maximum alertness and colour rendering precision.

Frequently Asked
Does this tube work in existing fluorescent fittings?
Yes, but the fluorescent ballast must be bypassed first. The tube runs on direct 230V mains. If you are not confident working with mains wiring, hire a qualified electrician to retrofit the fitting before installing the LED tube.
Can the colour temperature be changed after installation?
No. The CCT switch on the end cap must be set before the tube is installed and the fitting is re-energised. Changing the setting requires removing the tube, adjusting the switch, and re-installing it.
What colour temperature should I choose?
3000K warm white suits hospitality, residential and retail spaces. 4000K neutral white is standard for offices, workshops and corridors. 6500K cool daylight is used for technical tasks, inspection work and environments where maximum alertness is needed.
What is the expected lifespan?
LED T8 tubes in this class typically offer 25,000-30,000 hours of rated life. At 12 hours per day, this equates to approximately 5-7 years before noticeable depreciation in output.
