E14 (SES) LED Candle Bulb 4.9W 470lm - Warm White 3000K, 4 Pack

This is a candle bulb in the small screw fitting, E14, also called SES. It draws 4.9W and gives 470 lumens, which the pack puts at the equivalent of a 40W old-style candle bulb. The light is warm white at 3000K, a soft, yellow-leaning tone close to what people remember from filament lamps. The outer casing is opal white rather than clear, so the light leaves the bulb evenly instead of as a set of bright points. Each box holds four bulbs.

E14 is the smaller of the two screw caps used in UK homes, so check the thread on the bulb you are taking out before you order: an E27 cap is noticeably wider, around 27mm across, while E14 measures around 14mm. Small screw candles are the usual fit for chandeliers, multi-arm pendants, wall lights and smaller table and floor lamps, and the shaped tip is meant to be seen, so it suits open shades and clear glass fittings where a squat bulb would look wrong. The beam angle is 240 degrees, wider than a standard bulb, which means light carries backwards past the cap as well as forwards. That is useful in a fitting whose lamps point upwards into the ceiling.

These are not dimmable, so they need a plain on and off switch; on a dimmer circuit they may flicker, buzz or fail early. The energy label rates them F, at a consumption of 5kWh per 1000 hours, and the pack prints a 15 year lifespan. They come four to a box and are ordered in multiples of 30 boxes. Will these fit my chandelier or wall light?

They fit any holder marked E14 or SES, the small screw cap about 14mm across. If the old bulb screws into a wider thread it is E27, and this will not fit.

Can I use these on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification lists them as non-dimmable, so they need a standard on and off switch. Wired to a dimmer they may flicker or buzz and their working life can be cut short.

How does 470 lumens compare with the filament candle bulb I had before?

The pack rates it as a 40W replacement, so in a chandelier holding four or five lamps you should get much the same overall light level you are used to.

What does warm white 3000K look like in a room?

It is a soft, slightly yellow light, warmer than office lighting and a touch crisper than a 2700K lamp. It suits sitting rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms well.

Why is the energy rating only F when this is an LED?

The label scale was reset in 2021 and most domestic LED lamps now sit at E, F or G. This one uses 5kWh per 1000 hours, against 40kWh for the filament bulb it replaces.
