Description

This is a golf ball LED bulb with an E27 screw cap, drawing 4.2W and giving 470 lumens at 6,500K. Golf ball lamps take their name from their size and shape: a round head roughly the diameter of a golf ball, sitting on a full size Edison screw base. The opal white glass diffuses the LED chips inside, so the light leaves the bulb evenly rather than as bright points. The retail pack gives it as a 40W replacement, which makes it the LED answer to an older 40W incandescent golf lamp with no change to the fitting.

The round head is short enough for small shades, so it suits bedside lamps, wall lights, pendant clusters and the compact fittings along a hallway where a full size GLS bulb would sit proud of the shade. At 6,500K the light is daylight white: crisp, and noticeably bluer than the yellow cast of a warm white lamp. That makes it a sensible pick for kitchens, home offices, utility rooms, garages, workshops and hobby benches, anywhere you want colours to read true and small detail to stay sharp. For a bedroom or a sitting room, most people reach for a warmer 2,700K lamp instead.

It takes an E27 cap, the larger Edison screw thread. Look at the bulb you are replacing: if it screws in and the thread measures about 27mm across, this is the right cap.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?
