This is a golf bulb: the small round lamp that sits behind the shades on chandeliers, wall brackets and bedside lights. It draws 4.2W and gives 470 lumens, and the retail pack states that it replaces a 40W incandescent bulb. The cap is E14, the 14mm small Edison screw fitting also written as SES, so check that the old bulb has a narrow screw thread rather than the wider 27mm size before you order. Its outer is white and diffused rather than clear, which softens the light and keeps the diodes from showing through.

No. This lamp is non-dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. On a dimmer circuit you would most likely get flicker, buzzing or a shortened life.
