Description

This is a golf ball LED bulb with a B22 bayonet cap, the push and twist fitting usually written as BC. It draws 4.2W and gives 470 lumens, which the pack puts against a 40W filament bulb. The opal finish spreads the light evenly, so the diodes inside do not show as bright points. The colour is 2700K warm white, close to the soft light older tungsten bulbs gave, and the 140 degree beam angle sends light out to the sides as well as forward.

Golf ball bulbs earn their place where a full sized GLS bulb is too big: small pendant shades, bedside lamps, wall lights with narrow glass and the little fittings on landings and stairs. The compact head also helps where a shade clips onto the bulb itself rather than the lampholder. Warm white suits living rooms, bedrooms and dining spaces, where comfortable light matters more than sharp clarity. If you are mixing it with other bulbs in the same room, check those are 2700K as well, because two colour temperatures in one fitting is very noticeable.

It is not dimmable, so fit it on an ordinary on and off switch; on a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or fail early. The pack states a 15 year lifespan and 15,000 hours, and the energy rating is E. The IP20 rating means dry indoor use in a normal lampholder. Each unit is one boxed bulb, and the minimum order is 12, sold in multiples of 12. A B22 cap has two small pins on the sides of a smooth metal base, and it pushes in and turns a quarter turn to lock. If the old bulb screws in, you need a screw cap instead.

Is 470 lumens bright enough to replace my old bulb?
