Energizer LED Candle E14 4.2W Opal Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K

This is a 4.2W LED candle bulb with an E14 small screw cap, the fitting most often written as SES. It gives 470 lumens at 6500K, a daylight white with a clean, slightly blue cast rather than the yellow of a traditional filament lamp. The opal outer glass diffuses the diodes inside, so the bulb reads as an even glow along its length instead of a cluster of bright points. The beam spreads across 240 degrees, wide enough to fill a shade and still throw light up towards the ceiling. Energy rating is E.

An E14 cap is the smaller of the two common screw fittings, and it turns up in chandeliers, multi-arm ceiling fittings, wall lights, picture lights and a great many table and floor lamps. If you are not sure which you have, take the old bulb out and measure the threaded part: E14 is 14mm across, E27 is 27mm. Daylight at 6500K suits rooms where you want to see detail clearly, so kitchens, home offices, utility rooms, workshops and garages. Alongside warm white lamps in a living room it will read as noticeably cold, so it is worth keeping colour temperatures consistent within a room.

This bulb is not dimmable. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or fail early, so keep it on a plain on and off switch and choose a dimmable lamp where a dimmer is already fitted. What does SES mean, and will it fit my light?

SES is the small Edison screw cap, also written E14. The threads measure 14mm across, so if your old bulb screws in and is clearly narrower than a standard household bulb, this is the one you need.

How bright is 470 lumens compared with an old bulb?

The pack rates it as a 40W replacement, with 470 lumens measured in a sphere. In a chandelier or a small shade that is a normal working brightness for everyday use.

Can I put this on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification states it is not dimmable, so run it from an ordinary switch. On a dimmer it may buzz, flicker at low settings or shorten its own life.

What does 6500K daylight actually look like?

It is a crisp white with a cool edge, close to midday light, which makes colours and small print easy to read. Warm white at 2700K is the yellower, cosier alternative.

Will it spread light around the whole room?

The 240 degree beam angle is wide, so light leaves the sides and top of the bulb as well as the tip, filling a shade evenly rather than pointing in one direction.
