Description

This is a GU10 LED lamp that puts out 450 lumens from 4W, in a warm white 3000K that sits close to the colour of the halogen spotlights most GU10 fittings were built for. The pack rates it as a replacement for a 40W lamp, and prints a 15 year lifespan based on 15,000 hours of use. It is dimmable, and the beam is a wide one rather than a tight spot, so the light spreads across a surface instead of pooling in a small circle under each fitting. One lamp comes in the box.

Wide beam GU10s earn their keep where fittings are spaced a fair way apart: kitchen ceilings, a run of downlights along a hallway, track spots over a worktop or a set of shelves. The wider spread means fewer bright patches and fewer dark gaps between them. At 3000K the light is warm without being yellow, which suits rooms with wood, brass or warm paint, and it mixes sensibly with other warm white lamps already in the room. Will this fit the spotlights I already have?

It fits any GU10 holder. Check the lamp you are taking out has two stubby pins that twist a quarter turn to lock, rather than the two thin push-in pins of a low voltage lamp.

How bright is 450 lumens in a real room?

It is the output the pack puts against a 40W halogen, so a ceiling of four or five of these covers a small kitchen or hallway comfortably without being glaring.

Is it genuinely dimmable, and will my dimmer work?

Yes, the lamp is dimmable. Your dimmer needs to be one rated for LED loads, and it needs enough lamps on the circuit to meet its minimum load, or you may see flicker.

Does it carry an IP rating?

The manufacturer does not state one and none is printed on the pack, so treat it as offering no protection against water and keep it to dry indoor fittings.

How warm is 3000K compared with the halogens it replaces?
