Description

A golf ball bulb is the small round lamp that sits between a candle and a full sized GLS, and this one runs at 4.2W to give 470 lumens. The cap is E27, the larger of the two screw fittings used in the UK, so it goes straight into any ES lampholder. The light is warm white at 2700K, the familiar soft yellow tone of an old filament bulb rather than the crisp white of an office. Energizer prints a 40W replacement figure on the pack, which is the incandescent golf bulb most people will be taking out.

Golf bulbs earn their place where the shade is small or the lamp is on show. Think bedside lamps with narrow shades, wall lights, a three arm pendant over a dining table, or a mirror surround where several bulbs sit in a row and a full sized bulb would crowd them. Will this fit my lamp?

It takes an E27 screw cap, also called ES. Unscrew the old bulb and check the base: a threaded screw roughly 27mm across is E27, while a smaller thread is E14 and two push and twist pins are a bayonet cap.

How bright is 4.2W against the bulb I am taking out?
