B22 (BC) LED Golf Bulb 2.2W 250lm Non-Dimmable - Warm White 2700K

This is a golf ball bulb, the small round shape that sits a little above a candle bulb in size and reads as a neat sphere inside a shade. It takes a B22 bayonet cap, the push and twist fitting with two pins on the side rather than a screw thread, so it is worth checking the old bulb before you order. The LED inside draws 2.2W and gives 250 lumens, and the retail pack rates it as a 25W replacement. The opal white diffuser spreads the output so the individual diodes do not show through the shade.

At 250 lumens this is a gentle light rather than a main room workhorse, which suits bedside lamps, small pendant shades, wall lights and hallway or landing fittings where a full size GLS bulb would look oversized. The beam spreads across 180 degrees, so light goes outwards and sideways rather than in a narrow cone, which works well in an open shade or a glass fitting where the bulb is partly on show. Colour temperature is 2700K warm white, the soft yellow white of an old incandescent, and it flatters warm paint, wood and brass. The IP20 rating means dry indoor fittings only.

It is non-dimmable, so it belongs on a plain on and off switch; if the circuit already has a dimmer on it, pick a dimmable lamp instead. The energy label gives class E and a consumption of 3 kWh per 1,000 hours, and the pack prints a 15 year lifespan alongside a 15,000 hour figure. How do I know if my fitting takes a B22 bayonet cap?

Look at the base of the old bulb. B22 has a smooth metal cylinder with two small pins on the side and pushes in with a quarter turn, no screw thread. The narrower B15 bayonet cap will not fit a B22 lampholder.

How bright is 250 lumens in a room?

It is a soft, low output suited to bedside and accent fittings. The pack calls it a 25W replacement, so treat it as a gentle glow rather than the main light for a large room.

Can I put this on a dimmer switch?

No. Both the specification and the pack state it is non-dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. Fitting a non-dimmable lamp to a dimmer circuit can cause flicker or buzz.

What does 2700K warm white actually look like?

It is the warm yellow white most people associate with old incandescent and halogen bulbs. Try to keep one colour temperature per room, as mixing 2700K with 4000K lamps is very noticeable.

Can I use it outdoors, in a porch or a garden light?

Only in a dry, fully enclosed indoor fitting. The IP20 rating gives no protection against water, so it should not go anywhere exposed to rain or damp air.
