B22 (BC) LED Filament Candle Bulb 2.2W 470lm - Warm White 2700K

This is a candle bulb with a B22 bayonet cap, the push and twist fitting still found on a great many British ceiling roses and wall lights. Inside the clear glass sit slim LED filament strips, so the lit look is close to an old wound wire bulb while the draw stays at 2.2W. It gives 470 lumens, which the pack puts at the equivalent of a 40W incandescent candle, at a colour temperature of 2700K. That is warm white: a soft yellow light with none of the blue edge of a daylight lamp. The energy label rates it A, at 3kWh/1000h.

Candle bulbs earn their keep where the bulb itself is part of the look. Think five arm chandeliers, wall brackets with small clip shades, hall lanterns and glass fronted fittings where the glass is on show. Because this one is clear rather than opal, the filaments read as bright lines, so it suits open and half shaded fittings and sits best above eye level rather than in a table lamp you look straight into. Before ordering, check the cap on the bulb you are replacing: B22 has two small pins on the side of a smooth metal base, E27 screws in, and B15 is the narrower bayonet.

There is no dimming on this one. Both the specification and the pack say non dimmable, so keep it on a plain switched circuit; on a dimmer, a non dimming LED will usually flicker, buzz or fail early. The pack prints a 50 year lifespan. Which light fittings take a B22 cap?

B22 is the large bayonet cap: a smooth metal base with two pins on the side that you push in and twist a quarter turn. It is the standard on older British pendants, wall lights and chandeliers.

How bright is 470 lumens in a real room?

It is about the output of a traditional 40W candle bulb, which is why chandeliers and multi arm fittings usually take several. One on its own suits a small hallway light or a bedside wall bracket.

Can I put this on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification and the pack both say non dimmable, so wire it to a plain on and off switch. A non dimming LED on a dimmer circuit tends to flicker, hum or fail early.

What does 2700K warm white actually look like?

It is the soft yellow tone people associate with old filament lighting, flattering to timber, brass and warm paint colours. Cooler 4000K and 6500K lamps look whiter and read as more clinical.

Is an IP rating given for this bulb?

The manufacturer does not state one, so we quote none. Treat it as an ordinary indoor lamp for enclosed or open fittings in dry, sheltered positions inside the house.
