Energizer LED Candle B22 2.2W Filament Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K

This is a candle-shaped LED bulb with a B22 bayonet cap, the push-and-twist fitting found on a great many older British light fittings. It draws 2.2W and gives 470 lumens, and the retail pack puts that at the equal of a 40W incandescent candle. Behind the clear glass, straight filament strips run the length of the bulb, so the light source is on show rather than hidden behind an opal diffuser. The colour temperature is 6500K, which the pack calls daylight: a crisp, blue-leaning white with none of the yellow warmth of a traditional candle lamp. Its UK energy label reads A, with consumption shown as 3kWh per 1000 hours, and the pack states a 50 year lifespan.

A candle bulb earns its keep where the bulb itself is part of the look: chandeliers, multi-arm ceiling lights, wall brackets and lantern pendants. The clear glass and visible filament suit open fittings and shades that leave the lamp on view. The daylight tone is the part to weigh up first. How do I know if my fitting takes a B22 cap?

Look at the base of the old bulb. A B22 cap is a smooth metal cylinder with two small pins on the sides, and it goes in with a push and a quarter turn rather than screwing in.

Can I use this on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification gives it as non-dimmable, so on a dimmer circuit it may flicker, hum or fail to light at all. Choose a dimmable lamp for those fittings, or fit a plain on and off switch.

How bright is 470 lumens in a real room?

What does 6500K daylight actually look like?

It is a cool, slightly blue white, the coldest of the common household tones. It makes colours and detail easy to read, and it sits at the opposite end of the scale from a warm 2700K lamp.

Is an IP rating given for this bulb?

No. Neither the specification nor the retail pack prints an IP figure, so we state none. Treat it as an ordinary indoor lamp for standard enclosed or open domestic fittings.
