A 12.6W LED GLS bulb on a B22 bayonet cap, the pear shaped household bulb that most UK pendants and table lamps were built around. It gives 1,521 lumens, which the pack rates as a 100W replacement, so it is one of the brighter bulbs you can put in a single lampholder. The outer shell is opal white rather than clear, so the LED chips inside sit behind a diffusing surface and the light leaves the bulb evenly rather than as bright points. The colour temperature is 6,500K, at the daylight end of the white scale.

6,500K reads as a crisp blue-white with no yellow in it, and that is the light to choose where you are looking closely at something: a kitchen worktop, a garage or workshop bench, a utility room, a home office or a sewing corner. It is a deliberate choice rather than a default, and most people find it too cool for a bedroom or a sitting room, where 2,700K warm white suits better. The 240 degree beam angle means light spreads sideways as well as down, so the bulb fills a fabric shade or a glass globe without leaving a dark ring near the ceiling.

Will a B22 cap fit my lamp?

A B22 bayonet cap has two small pins on the side of a smooth metal base, and it pushes in and twists a quarter turn to lock. If your old bulb has a threaded screw base instead, that is an E27 and this will not fit.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

What does 6,500K daylight actually look like?

It is a clean blue-white, much closer to midday light than to the yellow of a filament bulb. Mixing it in the same room as 2,700K warm white bulbs will look obviously mismatched, so keep a room to one temperature.
