Energizer LED GLS Bulb E27 12.6W Opal Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K

This is a standard GLS light bulb with an E27 screw cap, the large screw fitting that most UK pendants, table lamps and standard lampshades take. It draws 12.6W and gives 1,521 lumens, which the pack puts at the same light as a 100W incandescent bulb. The colour temperature is 6,500K, the coolest of the common white tones and sold as daylight: a crisp, blue leaning white rather than the yellow of a traditional filament. The frosted outer shell softens the diodes inside so you see an even glow rather than bright points, and the beam spreads across 240 degrees.

Daylight at this brightness is a working light. It suits a kitchen ceiling fitting, a garage or utility inspection lamp, a home office where you read paperwork, a sewing or craft table, or a hallway that never gets much natural light. Colours look truer under 6,500K than under warm white, which is why it is a common choice where you need to match paint, thread or wiring. It is less at home in a bedroom or a sitting room where you want the light to feel soft in the evening; a 2,700K bulb is the better pick there.

This bulb is not dimmable, so put it on a plain on and off switch rather than a dimmer circuit; the non dimmable mark is printed on the pack. How do I know my light takes an E27 cap?

E27 is the larger of the two screw caps used in the UK, also written ES. Unscrew the old bulb and check the thread measures about 27mm across; the smaller 14mm thread is E14.

Is this as bright as the old 100W bulb it replaces?

The pack rates it as a 100W replacement and it produces 1,521 lumens, so in a ceiling pendant or a large table lamp you should see a very similar level of light for far less power.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. The specification and the pack both mark it non dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. On a dimmer circuit it may flicker, buzz or fail early.

What does 6,500K daylight look like in a room?

It is a cool, slightly blue white that reads as bright and alert rather than cosy. Good for kitchens, workshops and desks, and noticeably sharper than a 2,700K warm white bulb.
