Description

A G9 capsule is the small two pin lamp that slots into the base of a great many modern fittings, and this is the LED version of it. It draws 1.8W and gives 200 lumens at 2,700K, a warm white sitting close to the colour an old halogen capsule threw. The pack rates it as a replacement for a 20W G9 capsule, so it is a like for like swap rather than a jump in brightness. Each box holds two bulbs.

G9 lamps do quiet work around the house: they sit inside multi arm ceiling fittings, small wall lights, glass pendants over a dining table, cooker hoods and lit display cabinets. Warm white at 2,700K suits all of those, giving a soft yellow toned light that flatters wood, brass and painted walls rather than the whiter light you would want over a worktop. If you are replacing a halogen capsule, check the old one first: G9 has two looped pins about nine millimetres apart and pushes straight into the holder, where a similar looking G4 has two straight pins and is smaller.

This one is not dimmable, so put it on a plain on-off switch; on a circuit with a dimmer it may flicker or refuse to start, and the fix is either a plain switch or a lamp sold as dimmable. The pack prints a 15 year lifespan and the energy rating is E. You receive two bulbs in each box, which is useful where a fitting carries several capsules and you would rather change a pair at once, and the minimum order is 12 boxes, sold in multiples of 12.
