Description

The larger Endo pot, 48cm across at its widest and 39cm tall. The rim is rolled over at the top, and the wall drops away from it and out, reaching full width at a shoulder about two thirds of the way down before turning under to a base set well inside that shoulder line. A joint runs round the body where the two halves of the pot meet, and a band of raw gold metal sits along the turn where the black has worn back. The rest is scarred with long scratches, dents and patches where the black has gone thin over the gold.

48cm across is a planter for a shrub, a small tree or a large fern rather than a single houseplant. It takes a terrace, a doorway or the foot of a wall. At 39cm tall it stands about knee height, so the plant starts above the rim rather than at ground level. It is listed as suitable for outdoor use, and empty it weighs 4.3kg.

The iron comes from old storage drums, cut and worked into the pot, which is why every one carries a different pattern of wear and no two finishes match. The black is a surface over the metal and it goes through wherever the pot has been handled.
