Description

The Drosmine pendant light is a linear LED pendant built around a slim black bar, with a ribbon of brushed brass twisting gently along its length and the whole piece hung on two fine wires from a black rectangular canopy. It measures 115cm long, 11.5cm wide and 120cm high overall, so it reads as a long, low line of light rather than a single drop. The body is aluminium and steel, and the light shines through a white plastic shade on the inner face of the ribbon, from an integrated LED that draws 20W and gives 2,500lm. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room.

We see it most at home over a dining table, where its length follows the run of the table and puts light along the whole surface instead of one bright spot in the middle. A kitchen island, a long desk or a breakfast bar suits it just as well. With 2,500lm on tap and no dimming, it is a proper working light for meals, homework and cooking, and the black and brushed brass pairing sits comfortably with warm timber, dark metal and pale walls alike.

Because it is not dimmable, the colour temperature is how you change the mood: three settings are chosen at the light itself, across a range from a warm 2700K to a cool daylight 6500K. Day to day it is switched at the wall, with no switch on the fitting, and it runs on 220-240V mains. As a hardwired mains light, it needs a qualified electrician to install it, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Packed, it weighs 2.198KG, a modest weight for a fitting 115cm long.
