Description

A small, no-nonsense ceiling fitting that gives an E27 lamp somewhere to live and nothing more. The body is 10cm across and shallow, holding the lamp close to the ceiling and letting the glass do the looking. Polished chrome gives a bright, mirror-like surface that reflects whatever is around it, so the fitting never reads as a dark disc on a pale ceiling. With a clear globe or a filament lamp, the effect is mostly lamp.

We reach for fittings like this where headroom is short and a hanging shade would be in the way: hall ceilings, a landing, the top of a stairwell, a cloakroom or a utility. They also suit repetition, spaced along a corridor or over a run of worktop, where the same small disc reads as a rhythm rather than a feature. Take a lamp up to 20W, and if you want the light on a dimmer, choose a dimmable lamp and a compatible control to go with it.

The plating is smooth and even, carried across the face and the edge, and it holds its shine as long as you keep grease off it. Dust with a soft dry cloth; where fingerprints gather near the rim, a cloth barely damp with warm water, buffed dry straight after, is plenty, and cream cleaners or bathroom sprays should stay well away from a plated surface. Keep it to rooms that stay dry and out of the weather. It carries a one year warranty. What lamp should I use with it?

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable E27 lamp and a dimmer that is compatible with it. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a porch?

No. It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry interior rooms away from splashing and weather.

How do I keep the polished chrome looking good?

Switch the power off and let the lamp go cold first, then dust with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a cloth barely damp with warm water and buff dry at once; avoid abrasives, solvents and general household sprays.

Does it come in other finishes?
