Dreifa E27 Ceiling Light 10cm - Pewter

This is a small, plain ceiling light finished in pewter, a soft grey metal tone that sits quietly against a white or pale ceiling. It measures 10cm across and stands a little shorter than that, so it reads as a neat cap rather than anything that draws the eye upward. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, which leaves the choice of light very much open: a clear filament globe for sparkle, or an opal LED where you want a softer spread. Put a dimmable lamp in it and run it from a compatible dimmer and it will dim; otherwise it works as a straightforward on and off fitting.

We reach for this one in hallways, on landings, in box rooms and over stairs, anywhere a pendant would hang into the way or simply be too much. It suits low ceilings and busy through routes, and it is a sensible answer in a rented flat or a loft conversion where the ceiling is close overhead. Because the lamp does the talking, it works equally well in a period hallway with a decorative globe and in a plain utility room with something efficient and unfussy. It belongs indoors, in rooms that stay dry rather than in a bathroom zone or a porch.

The pewter has a slightly darkened, greyed cast rather than a bright shine, so fingerprints and dust show far less than they would on a polished metal. Keep it looking right with an occasional pass of a dry duster, power off and the lamp cold before you touch it. It carries a one year warranty. The same fitting is stocked in matt black, matt white, satin nickel, polished chrome, black chrome, antique brass, antique copper and gilt bronze, so a run of them can be matched or deliberately mixed. Lamps are not included.

What size is it?

It is 100mm in diameter and 95mm high, so it takes up very little ceiling.

Which lamp should I use?

An E27 lamp rated at 20W or less. LED lamps of any type are recommended, and the shape you choose sets the look, whether that is a decorative globe or a compact opal.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and use a dimmer compatible with it. No dimmer is supplied.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms, landings and similar spaces.

How do I clean the finish?

Switch off at the wall, let the lamp go cold, then wipe the pewter with a soft dry cloth. Avoid polishes and cream cleaners.
