Description

A small plated ceiling fitting, pared back to a neat shallow cap and a lampholder, made for people who want the lamp itself to do the visible work. The black chrome finish is a dark mirrored grey that picks up its surroundings, closer to smoked glass than to paint, and it holds a single E27 lamp. At 10cm across it stays discreet against a plain ceiling, and its shallow body keeps the whole thing tight to the surface rather than dropping into the room.

This is one we reach for where a pendant would hang too low or take up too much air: a stair landing, a box room, a cloakroom, a utility, or repeated in a line down a hallway ceiling. Because the holder is on show, it flatters a decorative lamp, so we would put a globe or a soft round LED in it and leave it at that. With a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer in the circuit it will dim, which suits bedrooms and hallways where full brightness is rarely wanted after dark.

The body is plated metal, and the finish is the thing to look after: dust it with a dry duster and, if it needs more, a barely damp cloth followed by a wipe dry, keeping polishes and bathroom sprays away from the plating. It is a dry indoor fitting for hallways, landings and living rooms rather than shower rooms. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same fitting in matt black, matt white, polished chrome, satin nickel, pewter, antique brass, antique copper and gilt bronze, so a set can be matched to door furniture or switch plates elsewhere in the house, and there are Dreifa pendant frames in the range if you want something with more presence.
