Description

A shallow ceiling box measuring 11cm across, finished in antique silver so it reads as aged metal rather than bright plate. It comes complete with a cable grip, an earth wire and a three pole terminal block, so the connections have a proper home and the flex is held at the grip instead of pulling on its cores. There is no lamp and no lampholder here: it is a cover with the working parts tucked inside.

We reach for one of these whenever a pendant or a length of flex needs a tidier finishing point overhead, and especially where a plain white plastic rose would look wrong under a metal shade. Antique silver sits well with pewter, nickel and older chrome, which makes it a good match for hallways, stairwells, kitchens and bedrooms in houses with some period character. It also earns its keep in a row of pendants over a table or an island, where matching boxes above keep the line reading straight. Keep it to dry rooms in the house, though, rather than a porch or a bathroom.

The antique silver is muted rather than shiny, a quieter grey than polished plate. Cleaning asks for very little: an occasional pass with a dry duster, and no metal polish or spray cleaner, both of which will strip the aged look back to something brighter. It carries a one year warranty.
