Description

Five flexes drop from a compact head, each finished in matt black and each ending in an E27 lampholder ready for a lamp of your choosing. The head is small, 12cm across, so the fitting reads as a gathering of cords and lamps rather than a solid shade. Every flex can hang long, with around two metres to play with, or be shortened right up, which is what makes the spider format so useful: you decide whether the lamps bunch together or spread wide across a room.

It works over a long dining table, along a kitchen island, or in a stairwell where the drops can be staggered down the well. The bare-lampholder look suits decorative LED lamps with visible filaments, and we would reach for those in a warm white rather than anything cold. With suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer it will dim, which helps in a room that shifts from breakfast to late supper. It earns its place in open-plan kitchens, studios and rented flats where one fitting has to cover a lot of ground.

Cords, cups and lampholders all share the same matt black, so nothing competes with the lamps themselves. Dust gathers on flex more readily than people expect, so run a dry cloth down each cord now and then, and give the lamps time to cool before handling them. Keep it to dry rooms; a bathroom zone or a covered porch wants a sealed fitting instead. It carries a two year warranty.
