Description

Three E27 lampholders on black flex, each with its own matt black cup, let you place light where the room wants it rather than where a single point sits. Each flex runs to two metres, so the drops can be cropped short and neat or left long over a table, and they need not hang level with one another. The cups measure 12cm across, and the design is deliberately bare: holder, cord, cup and nothing else.

We reach for this over a kitchen island or a long dining table, where separate pools of light do more work than one central fitting. It also works well in a hallway or a stairwell, and in a bedroom with a holder hanging either side of the bed. Because the holders are E27, you have the run of the shops: a big clear globe, a fat opal sphere, a bare squirrel-cage filament lamp, or a shade of your own choosing on each drop. With suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, the light can be taken down low for the evening.

The matt black finish is flat rather than glossy, so it recedes against a dark ceiling and reads as a clean graphic line against a pale one. Keep it looking sharp by running a dry cloth down the cord now and then, with the power off and the lamps cold, since matt surfaces hold dust more than polished ones do. It is meant for dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam. It carries a two year warranty. We also stock the Dreifa as a single lampholder ceiling light in matt white, antique brass, polished chrome, satin nickel, pewter and more, so the same plain shape can be echoed elsewhere in the house.
