Description

The Dosmorne is a smart pendant light built around a drum-shaped cage of flat black steel slats. Each slat curves over at the top and bottom edges, and at the crown they fan out from the centre like spokes, giving the shade an open, airy look. Inside sits a white plastic diffuser, and the light hangs from a slim cord and a round black ceiling rose. It is 45cm across and 110cm high overall. The light comes from integrated LEDs rated at 22W, with an output of 2,450 lumens, so there is no bulb to buy or change. It is rated IP20, which means it belongs indoors in a dry room.

We would hang it over a reading chair, a coffee table or a dining table, or use it as the main light in a living room or bedroom. Because it is a smart light controlled by app, one fitting covers a lot of ground. The white light adjusts from a warm 2700K for winding down in the evening to a crisp 6500K for reading and tidying, and it dims as well. When you want something more playful, the colour-changing RGB setting washes the walls in colour, from soft pinks to deep purples, for a film night or a party.

The frame is steel in a black finish and the shade is white plastic, which softens the LEDs whenever they are lit. There is no switch on the fitting itself: it is switched at the wall, then fine-tuned through the app. It also works with a remote control, which is sold separately. The energy class is F and it runs on 220-240V mains. Because it is a wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a PDF download. Packed, it weighs 3.296KG, worth knowing when you plan the job.
