Description

The Dorsa is a compact cylindrical wall light built from a 160mm tall, 65mm diameter section of light beige travertine, mounted against a rectangular walnut brown wooden backplate. A single E27 lamp sits inside the stone cylinder and projects light downward through the open lower aperture, with the natural pores and tonal variation of the travertine visible across the surface.

The compact 65mm diameter footprint suits hallways, bedside positions, lounge feature walls and reading corners where a full-size wall light would crowd the space. The downward-only light output makes it well suited as a soft accent above a console table or alongside a bed, where a directed pool of light at floor or surface level is preferable to a wider ambient wash. Installed in pairs or runs along a corridor, the cylinders build a quiet rhythm without dominating the wall.

Travertine is a sedimentary limestone with naturally occurring pits and veining, so each Dorsa shows a different surface pattern. The walnut wood backplate sits proud of the stone on one side, providing a warm tonal contrast against the pale beige and a clean rectangular anchor where the fitting meets the wall. The mixed-material construction — porous stone paired with grained timber — gives the piece a tactile, architectural feel rather than a polished decorative one.

What bulb does the Dorsa take?

The fitting takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. A warm-white LED between 4-8W and 2700K-3000K pairs well with the natural beige tone of the travertine and reinforces the warm downward glow.

Does it light upwards as well as downwards?

No. The Dorsa is a downlight only — the cylinder is closed at the top and open at the base, so light is projected downward through the lower aperture. For up-and-down lighting, look at twin-aperture cylinder wall lights instead.

Will the travertine pattern match between two units?

Travertine is a natural stone, so the surface pores, veining and tonal variation differ between individual cylinders. Pieces installed side by side will share the same overall colour family but show different surface patterns. This is a feature of the material, not a defect.

How is travertine cleaned?

Travertine is porous and softer than granite. Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid acidic cleaners, household sprays and abrasive cloths, as these can etch or stain the surface. For occasional deeper cleaning, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable.
