Description

The Dome 60/02 is a wood LED pendant light built around a shade 60cm across and 38cm tall. Slim strips of natural wood curve and overlap to form a narrow, flared neck that opens into a wide, domed skirt, and the gaps in that open lattice let light through as well as from beneath. Above the shade hangs a 10cm lamp housing in matt white, and the canopy on the ceiling is 14cm across. Its integrated LED draws 25W and gives 2224lm of warm 2700K light with a CRI of 90, so colours look true, and there is never a bulb to buy or change.

We think it belongs over a dining table, where the broad skirt gives the table a clear centre and the warm light falls on the meal and the people around it. It is equally at home in a living room, hung over a low table or a reading corner, and two side by side over a long table look generous rather than crowded. It is TRIAC dimmable and works with a compatible dimmer, so you can lower the light for a long supper and raise it again for a board game or the newspaper. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only.

The design is by Benedetta Tagliabue and EMBT, and you can see their thinking in the way each strip of wood is laid over the next to build a shape that is light to look at. The pendant is made from iron, aluminium and wood finished beech, with a matt white finish on the housing and a natural wood shade. It runs on 230V mains power, is a Class I fitting, and is wired in by a qualified electrician. Allow for the full 60cm width of the shade when you plan its position, so it has room around it over the table or seating.
