Description

The Didan is a lamp base blown in recycled glass and shaped like a bottle: a wide rounded body drawn up into a straight slim neck. The glass is a deep amber, strongest at the foot and lightening as it rises, and the whole body carries a crackle, a fine network of fractures running through it. A mould seam runs down one side. A brass collar and a black lampholder sit on the neck. It is 46cm tall and 27.5cm across.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. At 46cm tall and 27.5cm across it is a large base and it needs a surface to match: a console, a sideboard, a wide hall table. Lit, the amber reads warmer. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, the cord runs 2.5m and the plug is UK and EU.

The glass is made entirely from recycled material and every base is blown by hand, so the colour lands differently each time and the crackle never repeats. The fitting at the neck is iron. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a brass collar and a black lampholder on top. Supplied without a shade.

What is the crackle in the glass?

A network of fine fractures that forms while the glass is worked. It runs through the body rather than sitting on the surface, and no two bases carry the same pattern.

Is the colour even all over?

No. The amber is deepest at the foot and lightens toward the neck, and the depth of it differs from one base to the next because each is blown by hand.

What bulb does it take?

One E27, up to 60W. No bulb is included.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the glass.
