Description
This rectangular ceramic serving plate brings a gentle woodland scene to the Christmas table, with a stag and a doe standing together among winter greenery. The stag wears a red scarf and has a little red bird perched on his back, while the doe wears a garland of leaves and a festive flower around her neck. At their feet sits a bright red poinsettia with holly, red berries and a pine cone, and sprigs of leaves and berries reach in from the corners. The plate is white, with a softly rippled natural effect glaze that catches the light, and a red lip runs around the edge to frame the scene. It measures 35cm long, 15cm across and 2.8cm deep.
Its long, slim shape suits the middle of a dining table or a sideboard, where it can carry mince pies, slices of Christmas cake, cheese and crackers or a row of sweets when friends and family gather. Between meals it works as well as a festive display piece on a dresser, kitchen shelf or hall table, holding baubles, pine cones or wrapped chocolates. At only 15cm across, it fits neatly down the centre of a narrow table. The white ground and red rim sit happily with traditional red and green decorations, and the woodland theme brings a cosy, country feel to Christmas.
The plate is ceramic, with the deer and foliage design under a glossy glaze and a red lip finishing the rim. To keep it looking its best, we suggest washing it by hand in warm soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth, which is good practice for decorated ceramic, then storing it carefully so it is ready to come out again each December. Set it at the centre of the table for Christmas lunch, or wrap it up as a Christmas gift that will be brought out year after year.
